Meet Dr. Ashley

Hello! Dr. Ashley here.

I am so glad you found Dragon Physical Therapy. Whether you are a runner dealing with a nagging knee, a CrossFitter trying to improve your PR, or just someone who wants to move without pain, you are in the right place.

Today, I want to share a bit about my background and why I opened this concierge practice right here in Marin County.

From Division 1 to The Bay Area

My journey started in the pool. I was a Division 1 swimmer at Villanova University before earning my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

I spent the early years of my career in Hoboken, NJ, where I fell in love with CrossFit and the science of high-performance training. In 2014, I opened my first clinic, Ashley Mak Physical Therapy, specifically to help athletes and runners stay active while rehabbing injuries. I later expanded by opening a strength and conditioning facility, Hudson River Fitness.

In 2019, my wife and I moved to Tiburon. We fell in love with the active lifestyle of the Bay Area, and I opened Dragon Physical Therapy to serve this incredible community.

Why I Left the Insurance Model You may have noticed that Dragon Physical Therapy operates differently than the big box clinics. That is by design.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, I realized that the traditional healthcare model wasn't serving active people. The human body is a dynamic system. Fixing a shoulder or a lower back requires more than a 15-minute appointment and a heating pad. It requires looking at your sleep, your nutrition, your stress, and your programming.

The "Repeat Business" Paradox Here is the truth about the healthcare industry: It rewards sickness, not health. In most industries, a repeat customer is a good sign. In physical therapy, if I am doing my job right, you shouldn't need to come back forever.

I stepped away from insurance contracts so I wouldn't be forced to keep you on my caseload just to fill a quota. My promise to you is simple: I will identify the root cause, give you the tools to fix it, and get you back to the trails, the gym, or the road as fast as possible.

Let’s Get You Moving I’ve recorded over 190 episodes on my podcast, Fix Your Sciatica, breaking down the mechanics of pain relief. I bring that same level of detail and "detective work" to every in-person session here in Marin.
